A machine for bending reinforcements for use in concrete comprises a rotatable turntable, a plurality of annular bending dies mounted one within the other concentrically about a central pivot of the turn-table, said bending dies, when in an inoperative position, being located below a working surface of the turn-table, means for axially displacing the bending dies selectively into a raised working position in which the selected die can be engaged by a bar to be bent, and an abutment element and a displaceable gripper adapted, during a bar-bending operation, to guide and to engage the bar with the selected bending die. A selected die, say 3b, of concentric annular dies 3a-3e is raised above the working surface of a turn-table 1, rotated by a motor 8, by a pair of racks 12 on the die engaged by pinions 17 on a shaft 19 rotated by hand or otherwise and locked in position. The dies are formed with collars 9 engaging grooves 10 in the adjacent inner die, so that all the next smaller dies are raised with the selected die. The appropriate die is selected by moving the pinions 16, 17 along the shaft 19 by forks 26, 27 depending from non-rotatable nuts 24, 25 on a threaded shaft 20. In operation, a bar 34 is clamped at one end against a selected die, say 3b, by an elliptical gripper 31 mounted on a polygonal crosssection shaft in a selected hole 30 in the turntable 1. An abutment element 33 mounted in a selected hole 32 in the machine frame prevents the bar 34 from swinging outwards as the bar is bent around the die 3b on rotation of the turn-table 1.
