Abstract

903,587. Cathode-ray tubes. BUSH & RANK CINTEL Ltd. Feb. 22, 1961 [Feb. 22, 1960], No. 6136/60. Class 39 (1). A " flat " cathode-ray tube has a first deflection system 6, 7 at one corner at the screen 9 and a second deflection system consisting of a plurality of arcuate strips 11 centred at the centre of deflection of the first system. The axis of the gun 5 may be disposed at right-angles to the plane of the screen or parallel to one edge. In either case, the beam is initially turned into an appropriate path through the first deflection system by a static deflection system. The arcuate strips 11 may be provided on the envelope or on an insulating support sheet, e.g. of glass or silicone-impregnated glass cloth, within the envelope. In the latter case, the gun may be disposed on the side of the sheet remote from the screen and a static deflection system provided to cause the beam to enter the first deflection system in a plane parallel to the screen. The arcuate strips may be formed by evaporation through a mask, or a uniform coating may be divided into strips by a cutting operation, or a pattern of dividing lines may be laid down in a soluble substance which is afterwards removed together with superimposed conductive material after a layer of such material has been deposited over the whole area.
