Abstract

837,657. Colour television. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Feb. 25, 1958 [Feb. 25, 1957], No. 6087/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1). The parallax shadow mask of a colour television tube is made of perforated glass sheet having on its electron intercepting side a coating of at least one layer of metal. The metal may be of aluminium in a coating 75,000 Š units thick or of nickel or iron of sufficient thickness to protect the glass sheet by absorbing electrons impinging on the mask, and may be deposited by thermal evaporation. Alternatively the glass sheet may have a first layer of a chemically active metal e.g. barium or magnesium to absorb oxygen liberated by electron bombardment of the treated glass covered by a second layer e.g. of aluminium. Specifications 699,897, 743,796 and U.S.A. Specification 2,625, 734 are referred to.
