Abstract
903,531. Ion-getter pumps. ULTEK CORPORATION. Oct. 26, 1960 [Nov. 12, 1959], No. 36826/60. Class 39 (1). A getter pump has anode and cathode elements 11, 13, Fig. 1, the anode element 11 comprising a plurality of spaced parallel multiperforated plates defining in part an ionization space, the cathode element 13 being outside the ionization space. The anode plates may have sides one, two or all of which may also be multi-perforated to form a box, Fig. 4 (not shown), or a plurality of perforated plates may be arranged parallel to one another, Fig. 5 (not shown). In the former case additional cathodes may be arranged at the sides of the box. The cathode plates 13 are at top and bottom of the anode structure. The anode structure may be built into rows and columns with sandwiched cathode plates or there may be only one or two anodes. The cathodes may be strips instead of sheets. The cathodes are secured to the anodes by insulated connectors 19 and braces 15. The anode is of Ti, stainless steel or Zr and the cathode Ti, Zr or yttrium. The magnetic field is perpendicular to the cathode plates.
