Abstract
902,924. Mash tuns and like brewing vessels. WEIGELWERK G.m.b.H. Jan. 13, 1961, No. 1481/61. Class 14 (2). A mash tun or like brewing vessel 1, in which wort is concentrated by evaporation and, for example, hopped, comprises one or more substantially vertical plate-shaped heating elements 2 located, for example detachably, substantially centrally in the tun. The tun may be round, Fig. 1, and it may have a flat or inwardly dished base 4, as shown. A plurality of elements may be mounted cross- or star-wise on a tube 3, through which a heating fluid, such as steam, may be supplied to them. The heating effect of each element may be regulated and it may be switched on or off. The elements may be rotated to act as stirrers. In an alternative construction, Figs. 3 and 4, the tun is oval and its base 4 is dished inwardly to form a ridge extending along the major axis. The heating element or elements 2 are arranged along or parallel to this ridge. Each heating element may comprise a hollow metal plate, which may be divided by horizontal partitions into compartments a, b, c, each of which may be switched on or off and regulated. Each heating element may comprise superimposed pipes, which may be provided with an enveloping casing. The tun may be heated, also, by elements 5 of a known type.
