Abstract
902,739. Air-break switches; switch and fuse contacts. ADAMSON GREEN & CO. Ltd., and BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Dec. 12, 1958 [Sept. 18, 1957], No. 29419/57. Class 38 [5]. A fuse-switch comprises a cartridge fuse 1 loosely mounted in a semi-cylindrical carrier 22 by means of bolts 12 and 13 passing through the end contact plates of the fuse and engaging tapped holes 16 in brackets 4 and 5 respectively. Wedge members 10 and 11 engage inclined faces on the brackets 4 and 5 and when urged forward by screws 19 and 20, whose ends 18 engage in slots 17 in wedges 10 and 11, compress the fuse contact plates into firm contact with the ends of contact strips 32, 33 fixed between vertical insulating members 34. The strips 32 and 33 have slots 36 and 40, as shown, to accommodate the bolts 12 and 13 such that when the wedges 10 and 11 are loosened the carrier and fuse may be pivoted about the lower bolt 12 by means of a handle 25. The carrier 22 and end walls 26, 27 may be a unitary moulding of plastic material. A notch 28 in end wall 27 engages the under-edge of strip 32 when the fuse-switch is open and maintains the fuse and carrier in a horizontal position. Auxiliary plates 29 with arcing tips 30 are provided adjacent the upper contact plates 3 of fuse 1. Specification 902,740 is referred to.
