Abstract
902,441. Silencing gaseous currents. WOODS OF COLCHESTER Ltd. Oct. 5, 1959 [Oct. 13, 1958], No. 32601/58. Class 7(2) A silencer comprises a section of duct with a perforated wall 11a and a sound-deadening blanket 13a confined by an outer skin 19a between two-part end flanges whereof the inner parts 14a have sufficient thickness and depth for a bolted joint and the outer parts 16a are of thinner material. The inner parts 14a have tapped holes 15 and are tack welded to the wall 11a. The outer parts 16a, of angle material, are tack welded at one end and at the other end are bolted at 25 to spaced lugs 24 welded to the inner part 14a. Lifting lugs 26 may be provided at one side only of the duct or in diametrically opposite pairs at each end. The inner wall 11a and the outer skin 19a can be made in sections, welded or rivetted together. The blanket 13a can be made up of sections. In another embodiment, the outer parts of the flanges are of flat strip material rolled on edge and tack welded to the inner parts and to the outer skin.
