Abstract
901,771. Standby supply systems. PELAPONE Ltd. Nov. 14, 1960 [Nov. 12, 1959], No. 38353/59. Class 38 (4). Standby generating apparatus in which an alternator supplying a load is normally driven by an electric motor supplied from a mains supply, the alternator being driven by an internalcombustion engine 15 through a clutch 14 should the supply to the motor fail, has the alternator and motor rotors housed in a single frame or carcass 10, flywheels 13 being secured to the shaft 12 of the motor alternator combination to maintain rotation thereof during the period between the cessation of the mains supply and the starting up of the engine 15. A single flywheel may be mounted between the rotors of the alternator and motor and the starting of the engine 15 together with the energization of the clutch may be automatic upon cessation of the supply.
