Abstract

<PICT:0901006/III/1> A supersaturated solution, e.g. of sodium chloride, is continuously fed downward through a tube 1 having a flared outlet 2 into a crystallization vessel having a lower cylindrical portion 4, an intermediate frusto-conical portion 5, and an upper cylindrical portion 6, crystals and excess mother liquor passing out through outlets 7 and 8 respectively. The height of portion 4 may be 0,8 timse its diameter. The diameter of portion 6 may be 1,4 times that of portion 4. In modifications the vessel may be non-circular, and the cylindrical upper portion 6 may be dispensed with. The crystallizer may be combined with an evaporator (Fig. 1, not shown).
