Abstract

1,159,670. Crystallizing para-xylene. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 26 Jan., 1967, No. 3960/67. Heading C5E. [Also in Division B1] In a process for freezing a liquid comprising para-xylene and at least one other xylene and/or ethyl benzene to produce a slurry comprising crystals of para-xylene and a mother liquor by contacting the liquid with a cold surface, the crystals are detached from the cold surface by applying sonic vibrations to the liquid at a point removed from the cold surface. The cold surface is suitably a thermally conductive barrier separating the liquid from a refrigerant liquid, e.g. the surface of a tube or finger. Detailed apparatus is described.
