1323066 Purification of 4-methyl-2,6-di-tbutyl phenol IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 Oct 1970 [13 Oct 1969] 50126/69 Heading C2C A process for purifying 4-methyl-2,6-di-tert.- butyl phenol comprises a first crystallization stage in which liquid crude 4-methyl-2,6-di-tbutyl phenol is contacted with an alcohol having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms and water to produce crystals of 4-methyl-2,6-di-tert.-butyl phenol, and a second crystallization stage in which the crystals from the first stage are re-crystallized from an alcohol having 1 to 3 carbon atoms and the mother liquor from the second crystallization stage is returned to the first crystallization stage.
