Abstract

1,262,645. Butyl esters. B.P. CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 11 April, 1969 [14 May, 1968], No. 22776/68. Heading C2C. Normal or isobutyl acetate is prepared by feeding n- or iso-butanol and acetic acid at a substantially equimolar rate to a reaction vessel containing acetic acid and less than 10% w./w. of water, removing the-product ester and water overhead by distillation in a fractionating column and adding water to the fractionating columnat an -intermediate point to assist removal of the product ester.
