Abstract

1,248,856. Vinyl acetate. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 28 Oct., 1969 [8 Nov., 1968], No. 52669/69. Heading C2C. Vinyl acetate is recovered from a crude by distillation in a plurality of columns into which oxygen or a gas containing oxygen is introduced so as to ensure that oxygen is present throughout each column. Conventional inhibitors, e.g. hydroquinone, and 4-tert-butyl catechol may be present and an inert gas such as carbon dioxide may be mixed with the oxygen. The crude may be that from the reaction of ethylene, oxygen and acetic acid in the presence of a noble metal catalyst.
