Abstract

[Also in Group XXVI] In a turbo-blower assembly a turbine T is connected by an intermediate casing 6 to a centrifugal blower G, the casing 6 having bearings 4, 5 therein supporting a shaft 8 and receiving pressurized oil in which the shaft rotates and which axially feeds the bearings. The casing 6 has a high-pressure chamber 6<SP>1</SP> to which oil is supplied by a pump P from a sump 10 connected by a pipe 9 to a low-pressure chamber 6<SP>11</SP> of the casing 6. The bearings 4, 5 are mounted in a sleeve 7 having radial apertures 7a therein leading from the chamber 6<SP>1</SP> to the shaft and bearings 4, 5. The oil is forced between the shaft and the bearings and is then transferred to the chamber 6<SP>11</SP> via passages 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, 6d, 6e from where it is returned to the sump 10 via the pipe 9. The chambers 6<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>11</SP> are also connected by a pipe 12 which acts as an overflow and serves to equalize the pressure in the chambers when the oil level is below a mouth 12<SP>1</SP> of the pipe 12 which is supported by an end 6g of the chamber 6. Sealing of packing points 17, 18 is effected by air under pressure received from the blower via an annular channel 13, a channel 13a and axial channels 16. The turbine is secured to the casing 6 by radial extensions 14 having radiallyextending slots with edges 14a which serve as guides for screws 15 having cylindrical portions 14b thereon, so that the turbine can expand without being unduly stressed. The blower casing 2, having flanges 2a, is clamped to a stepped portion 6f of the casing 6 by screws 11<SP>1</SP> and a member 11. Both the turbine and the blower can be oriented relatively to the case 6 prior to locking thereto. Specifications 893,509 and 893,576 are referred to.
