900,653. Locking-rods. ACCESS EQUIPMENT Ltd. Oct. 30, 1958 [April 29, 1958], No. 13591/58. Class 80 (3). [Also in Groups XXIX and XXX] A friction lock preventing descent of an hydraulic lift-ram 7 comprises friction segments 6 urged radially inwards against the ram 7 by balls or rollers 8 pressed downwards by a spring 10 into wedging engagement between the segments 6 and an internally-coned fixed ring 12 (see right of Figure), the segments 6 having shoulders 13 which contact the balls 8 and release them from wedging engagement (see left of Figure), when the ram 7 is raised or when a hand lever 14 is operated to raise a ring 4 connected by a bonded rubber ring 5 with the segments 6.
