Abstract

900,246. Protractors; rulers. ZENTHON, E. R. May 26, 1960 [May 26, 1959], No. 17850/59. Class 97 (3). A protractor for plotting tacheometric surveys on paper or for use in marine chart work, comprises a rigid flat plate 1, Fig. 1, with a cutout 2 in the form of a complete circle, the edge of the cut-out being graduated such as in sixths of a degree. A ruler 7, Fig. 3, which is used in association with the protractor has its graduated edges bevelled and across one end a member 8 is secured by rivets 9. The member 8 has pinholes 11, each of which coincides accurately with the zero of one of the two scales. To plot the results of a tacheometric survey a square transparent plate 4, Fig. 5, is placed with the intersection of two lines 5, 6, marked thereon, over the mark 3 of the observing station and marks, as shown, are made on the paper at the ends of lines 5, 6. The plate 4 is removed, and the protractor placed so that the marks made are aligned with N, S, W, E markings on the protractor, the marks 3 then being at the centre of the protractor. A pin is placed through one of the holes 11 in ruler 7 into the board at mark 3 so that ruler 7 may rotate and co-operate with the protractor.
