Abstract

900,242. Mixing pulverulent materials. GRUN, G. April 28, 1959 [April 30, 1958; Dec. 3, 1958], No. 14542/59. Class 86. A method and apparatus for mixing pulverulent and/or granular materials comprises a container 1 with a hopper-shaped lower portion 3 having an outlet valve 5 for the mixed materials. Intermittent pulses of compressed air are introduced through nozzles 14 which are directed upwardly and tangentially so that a whirling motion is imparted to the material ; the air leaves the container through filters 9. The duration, intensity and frequency of the pulses is preferably such that the heaviest particles are raised in suspension and that the materials have time to settle between pulses. In a modification, Fig. 3, the lower end of the container is closed by a conical member 18 having nozzles 14 directed obliquely upwards as before ; other radially directed nozzles 21 may be provided to spray a finely-divided liquid medium into the suspended powder. The member 18 acts also as an outlet valve for the materials being mixed; it is actuated by the ram 20.
