Abstract

900,174. Two-part couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. June 16, 1960 [June 22, 1959], No. 21115/60. Class 38 (1). A two-part hood for clamping the wire connections of one or both parts of a two-part connector comprises identical halves 18a, 18b which are pivoted on bolts 24a, 24b to the connector base 12. A threaded pin portion 26b and a threaded socket portion 26a are for engaging pin-and-socket portions of the correponding connector base unit. Each hood member is provided with an abutment 54a, 54b which, when the hood members are closed, cam the wires away from the pivot bolts to prevent pinching the insulation. A clamping plate 30 is adjustably mounted by bolts 32 on a wall 28a of the hood member 18a, the wall also being provided with a U bolt 42 of which the ends are engageable by threaded caps 46 rotatably mounted on the wall 28b of the other hood member 18b. In operation, the hood members are closed and secured in position by means of the threaded caps, the clamping plate then being adjusted to give the desired pressure on the wires. The hood may be of aluminium or an alloy thereof and may encompass both halves of a two-part coupling. The connector shown includes pins 14.
