Abstract

1,195,542. Crimping pliers. THOMAS & BETTS CORP. 20 July, 1967 [10 Aug., 1966], No. 33395/67. Heading B4W. Crimping pliers comprise a frame, a pair of jaws pivotally mounted in the frame in opposed relation to each other, pressure-applying means also pivoted in the frame for closing the jaws and a feed portion in the frame for supplying deformable connectors to a cavity between the jaws. A frame 12 has pivoted therein at 41 a pair of operating handles 13 which are pivotally connected to jaws 14 pivoted in the frame at 44, closure of the handles 13, against the bias of springs 15, thus urging the jaws 14 towards each other. The frame 12 is formed of two separable sections and has within it a magazine containing connectors 52 urged forward by a spring-loaded rod 61 to abut against beads 50 on jaws 14 when these are in the open position shown. The pressure surface of each jaw is semi-polygonal and after the handles 13 are closed to compress the connector 50, and conductors 51 inserted therein, into a polygonal mass the connector 51 can be removed betweenthe beads 50 when the handles 13 are then opened, its place being taken by the next connector in the magazine. The spacing of the jaws 14 in the closed position is determined by screws 53 which bear against the magazine. It is stated that the device may be operated either manually or automatically.
