Abstract
899,590. Electromagnetic holding devices. HANSEN, J. J. Jan. 25, 1961, No. 2874/61. Class 35. A device for lifting an elongated load 5 for use with a crane comprises narrow electromagnets 4 resiliently supported in line by spring-loaded members 6 (Fig. 6), from a tubular beam 1. The electromagnets 4 are coupled together by shafts 10 through cardan joints 11. A handle 16, which carries a switch control box 25, and facilitates the guiding of the device into position, is provided at one end of the beam adjacent to another handle 24 by which each magnet can be placed at the desired angle on the load. In a modification, the supporting beam comprises three parts 1a, 1b 1c hinged at 12, to accommodate an upwardly convex load 5a, the beam being suspended by a stretcher arrangement consisting of two links 13, 14 linked to a stretcher 15 and to the centres of beam parts 1a, 1c, Fig. 4.
