Abstract
1,129,270. Devices for engaging and lifting articles. CONSTRUCTIONS MILLS-"K". 1 June, 1967 [3 June, 1966], No. 25434/67. Heading B8H. A lifting device has load engaging arms 6, 7, 8, 9, Fig. 1, pivoted to heads 4, 5, which are slidably mounted on a beam comprising members 1a, 1b. The arms 6-9 are manipulated by slidable handles 10-13. Brackets 23-26 may have their plates 23 inserted between the members la, 1b so that slings may be suspended from the extremities of the arms 26. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, arms 47a, 47b are pivotally suspended at various points along beams 41, 42 between locating plates 52. The distance between the beams is adjusted by telescopic tubes 43a, 43b, 44a, 44b, the ends of which fit into sleeves 59a, 59b. Fig. 6a shows a handle 90 for opening load engaging arms 82, 83. Pulling the handle causes a wedge to push sliding rods outwards thereby pivoting the arms about pins 84, 85. Movement of the sliding heads and arms could be by mechanical, electrical or pneumatic devices.
