Abstract

899,539. Cables. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 16, 1959 [Oct. 21, 1958], No. 35096/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. A flexible cable especially suitable as an instrument lead comprises a stranded conductor covered with a woven textile braiding impregnated with a carbon suspension and surrounded by an insulating layer, e.g. polyethylene, in contact with the braiding but so disposed that slight relative shifting of contact areas, due to flexing of the cable, is possible, thus ensuring the maintenance of a carbon deposit on the inner surface of the insulation. Preferably the inner surface of the insulation is additionally coated with carbon, the impregnated braiding serving merely to maintain this coating. A further coating and braiding may be applied on the outer surface of the insulation and a second conductor of metal braiding may then be provided, followed by a layer of P.V.C. A further metal braiding constituting an external screen may also be provided and a final P.V.C. layer.
