899,307. Moulding fibre-resin sheets. BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd. June 30, 1960 [July 6, 1959], No. 23004/60. Class 87(2). [Also in Group VIII] An apparatus for making reinforced resin sheet comprises means e.g. a belt 20, for leading reinforcing fibres 18, e.g. of glass, between two longitudinally moving carrier bands 24, 26, means for depositing liquid thermosetting resin 38 on the inner surface of one of the bands 24, means 30 for pre-coating one at least of the bands 24, 26 with a resin, which may be thermosetting, means 32 for applying a catalyst to bring the precoat of resin to a gel state, and means, e.g. heaters 62, for curing the gel and for bonding the gel to the resin in the sheet. The band 26 has similar resin- and catalyst-applying means 54, 56 and a blade 44 regulates the amount of resin 38 applied to the band 24, rollers 52 controlling the thickness of the laminate, which may contain threads 46 led from spools 48. The bands 24, 26, which may be endless belts and may be stripped from the laminate, may be of regenerated cellulose, polyester resin, cellulose acetate, or treated paper, or, if retained on the laminate, may be disposable. Corrugating or shaping means may be located at the curing section, after which the laminate may be cooled and cut into lengths. Specification 826,412 is referred to.
