Abstract

899,221. Feeding webs. AKRON STANDARD (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Jan. 14, 1960 [Feb. 5, 1959], No. 4111/59. Class 100(1) . A machine for feeding stock to tyre building machines is of the kind comprising a turret 10, Fig. 1, rotated mechanically to bring one of a pair of groups of stock supply units into position for supplying a tyre building drum, each unit comprising a supply roll 17 and a liner rewind roll 18 mounted in spaced relation in an endless chain 15 at each end of the rolls, the chains 16 being fed to present each unit to a table 19 over which the stock passes to the tyre building machine. The shafts 23, 24, Fig. 3, carrying the rolls 18, 17 respectively carry clutch driven members 25, 26 for engagement with driving members 27, 28. The members 27, 28 are moved axially of splined shafts 35, 36 into driving engagement with the members 25, 26 by an air cylinder 29 actuating a member 39. Shaft 35 is driven through a pinion 43 by an electric motor 44, Fig. 1, the shaft 36 being driven through the rotation of the roll 17 by the pull of liner web being rewound on the roll 17 and braked by an electromagnetic brake 45 operative when the motor 44 is deenergized. The motor 44 is controlled by a switch 53 (Fig. 8, not shown) actuated by an arm on a nut 50, Fig. 7, on a screwed shaft 49 driven by wheel 48 engaging the roll 17, Fig. 1, being unwound. The switch is carried by a nut 54 manually adjustable along a screw 55, the setting of the nut determining the length of stock unwound before de-energization of the motor 44. The wheel 48 is carried by an arm 59 (Fig. 5, not shown) on a shaft 61 carrying a pinion engaging a rack actuated pneumatically by an actuator 65, to rock the wheel to and from the roll 17. A variable electric resistance in the circuit of motor 44, Fig. 1, is varied by movement of the arm 59 (Fig. 5, not shown) to vary the speed of the motor to maintain the speed of the liner web constant.
