Abstract

Powdered ore, e.g. iron ore or roasted zinc ore, is briquetted by mixing it with a minor amount of bitumen, pressing to form briquettes and subsequently heating the pressed bodies to 250-400 DEG C., preferably in a non-oxidising atmosphere. Heating is preferably for not more than one hour and may be carried out using cooled flue gases. Coke may be incorporated in the mixture to be pressed.
