898,673. Treating air. JANES, P. Aug. 1, 1958 [Aug. 17, 1957], No. 24841/58. Class 137 A method of treating air to remove impurities comprises mixing a part of the polluted air with a liquid, subjecting the mixture to a plurality of expansions and contractions, adding the mixture to the remainder of the polluted air, projecting the whole against a surface to remove the impurities, and discharging the purified air. As shown, polluted air is drawn into an inlet 30 by a fan 9 and a part is drawn into a mixing chamber 3 by a fan 8 where it is mixed with a liquid, e.g. water, and the mixture discharged from the chamber through a narrow passage 4, a recess 23 containing fan blades 12, and through a second narrow passage 10 into a separating chamber 13 where, mixed with the remainder of the polluted air, it is thrown against coils 15 on which the liquid and impurities are deposited and clean air finally discharged through outlets 18. A perforated cup 29 over the inlet may contain dry ice to regulate the temperature ofthe air and coils 24 surrounding a feed mechanism for the liquid may ozonize the polluted air.
