Abstract
549,338. Gas washers. TRAUGHBER FILTER CO., Ltd., and MODE; W. F. July 1, 1941, No. 8286. [Class 55 (ii)] In apparatus for the removal of fine particles from gases by a washing liquid in which the liquid is maintained in troughs through which the gases are passed and which are covered by bells or channels which force the gases below the level of the liquid, an overflow being maintained which will remove froth from the surface of the liquid, the washing liquid is continuously removed from near the bottom of the liquid. The gas is admitted through an inlet 1, which directs it downwardly against a body of liquid 2, and passes through a spray from a rotating drum 4 before faking a tortuous path leading through another spray from a rotating drum 8. The gas then passes upwards and is forced by inverted channel members 11 through the liquid in troughs 10 after which it traverses a fine rain or liquid falling from a bed of Raschig rings sprayed by nozzles 15. A further layer 18 of Rasehig rings are sprayed.by pipes 19 when desired, but may be used to dry the gases before they pass to the outlet 21. The continuous discharge of the liquid from the floors of the troughs 10 is effected through drain openings 22 connected to common headers 23 leading to outside the tower, and to discharge pipes 26, the quantity and state of the liquid being -easily observed as it discharges into funnels 25. The volume of liquid discharged in a given time is equal to the volume supplied less that overflowing from the surface, and controlled by an adjustable weir 29. The rate of supply of liquid to the header 16 is such that there is a continuous discharge through pipe 31 thus keeping the pipes 15 free from deposited solids. Specification 485,155 is 'referred to.
