Abstract

898,506. Protective arrangements. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 1, 1960 [July 2, 1959], No. 22809/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXVIII] A monitoring arrangement for a selsyn system comprising transmitter 1, 2 and receiver 3, 4 has transformer windings in the phase leads connecting the two units, the secondary currents being rectified, added together and applied to two parallel-connected relay coils RLC 1 and RLC 2 . One of these relays will be operated when the current falls below a predetermined value, e.g. one-tenth of the normal value, to indicate an open-circuit in one of the phase leads. Similarly, the other relay will be operated by a short-circuit between two of the phase leads, as this results in the current rising above a predetermined value, e.g. 5-10 times the normal value. The operation of the relays can give an indication or control effect, e.g. it can disconnect the selsyns or a winder motor in a mine-hoist installation.
