Abstract
898,208. Bowden mechanism; flexible shafts. TELEFLEX Inc. Dec. 16, 1958 [March 5, 1958], No. 40574/58. Classes 80 (2) and 80 (3). A guide conduit for reciprocable or rotatable motion transmitting cables comprises a flexible compression-resisting component 18 and a flexible tension-resisting component 20, which components are maintained under compression and tension respectively in use to provide a degree of rigidity. The inner compression component 18 comprises a closely wound helical strip and the outer component 20 is in the form of a braid, preferably of metal. A tubular liner 22 of polytetrafluorethylene may be provided for the conduit. The ends of the conduit are held in end fittings 24 which include a tapered gland 38 and collet 40 for clamping on to the outer component 20 and applying tension to it by screwing up a nut 42, the inner component 18 abutting against a tubular member 44.
