Abstract
897,970. Draught excluders. JARVIS, H. July 1, 1960 [Nov. 17, 1959], No. 38903/59. Class 20(3) The vertically movable excluder strip 3 operable under the control of a spring-loaded slidable bar 2 on contact with the door jamb, is independently urged in a downward direction by springs 15 acting on levers 8 pivoted at 9 to the housing 1 and coupled to the strip 3 by a pin and slot coupling 12, 11 and the loading on the bar 2, by springs 5 pivoted at 6 to the housing and acting on the bar through the projection 7, is such that when the bar is free, the spring 5 pushes the bar to its inoperative position (i.e., to the left, as shown), and effects the lifting of the strip 3 against the pressure of springs 15. The coupling between the bar 1 and the strip 3 has a lost motion effected by the projection 7 riding along the flat surface 16 of the lever 8 during the initial stages of operating movement of bar 2, at the end of which the projection 7 comes opposite a recess 17a in the lever 8 and enables the lever 8 to rotate and lower the strip. The spring 5 may be replaced by a helical spring connected between the bar 2 and the housing 1. In another modification the levers 8 may be replaced by the spring arm 15 being coupled directly to the strip 3 by a pin and slot coupling, the lost motion being then effected between a thrust transmitting member to the spring 5 and the bar 2.
