In a bath tub 1 having a sloping rear wall 6 the maximum inner horizontal width (e) at any height is situated at a distance which is substantially one-third the total inner length (a) of the tub 1 from the inner border at the head-end at 3 to the foot-end at 4, the inner width decreasing towards the head- and foot-end and from the top to the bottom of the tub, and the right- or left-handed located rear wall 6 is sloped so that its horizontal projection is substantially one-third of the said total inner length (a). In the forms shown the said decrease in width occurs in such a way that the transverse walls at the respective ends are internally equal in length (b) and are substantially three-quarters the corresponding maximum width (e) of the tub 1. The wall 6 is 35 degrees-50 degrees to the horizontal to cover in projection substantially one-third of a. The longitudinal upper borders 40, 41 of the tub space are sloped in the region of the head- and foot-end by substantially 10 degrees and 5 degrees, respectively, to the longitudinal centre plane of the said space. The wall 7 at the foot-end is at substantially 10 degrees to the vertical and the longitudinal walls 5 are at an angle of substantially 10 degrees and 14 degrees to the vertical at the foot-end and at the line of maximum width, respectively. The upper length (a) of the inner space is substantially 2¢ times the maximum upper width (e). The bottom 8 is sloped towards the drain opening 9 near the foot-end in Figs. 1, 2 and 4 with a gradient of 1 in 50. The opening 9 may be halfway along the length or at the rear end. The bottom 8 has a large radius at the head-end and a grooved area 10 towards the foot-end. The back wall 6, side walls 5 and the foot-end wall 7 extend into each other with large radii of curvature. A rim extends all round the inner space, enlarged to form a seating edge, at least at one point adjacent, the upper border. Where the rim abuts a wall it may have an elevated water ledge 33 and the bath has a skirting 20 elsewhere with a foot portion 30, Figs. 11 and 12. An unwalled tub may have a skirting.
