7 Claims. (Cl- 4-146) The present invention relates particularly to a combination bathtub and shower bath.

It is one object of the present invention to provide a device of the character indicated so constructed and arranged that it may be readily packed for shipping and quickly and easily assembled and installed at the point of use by unskilled labor.

It is another object of the invention to provide a device of the character indicated that will permit quick and easy access to the water supply and waste connections thereto.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a device of the character indicated that will be artistic in appearance, that will be strong and rigid when installed between two walls disposed at right angles to each other, that will be economical to manufacture, that consists of few and simple parts, and that will be highly eificient in its practical application.

In the particular embodiment of the invention 5 herein disclosed, I show at I the enclosing wall of the structure. This wall is made of a single piece of sheet metal shaped to form a symmetrical, oblong, octagonal figure in horizontal crosssection and of sufficient height to completely enclose a person occupying the same in an erect position. The several sides ofthe wall are indicated at 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, l, 8 and 9. The

2 and 6 define the width of the tub and the major portion of its length and form the front and rear thereof, while the sides 5 and 1 are angularly disposed relative to side 6 and seat solidly against the sides It and II of the square cornered room in which the tub is placed. The sides 3 and 9 are identical with sides 5 and l and are disposed in opposed relation thereto,

3 and 5 being connected by short end side 4, and sides 1 and 9 by end 8.

In the front side 2 is formed an entrance opening l2, the portion of the wall at the bottom of the opening being provided with an upwardly and outwardly inclined flange l3. The portions of the wall defining the sides of the opening are provided with outwardly turned flanges as at l4, and each of these flanges is turned inwardly upon itself as at l5 and then outwardly again as at IE to form sockets as at IT.

In the side 4 are formed the required number of depressions or recesses as l8 to accommodate the several controls as 59, the soap, faucet etc., whereby no projecting parts will be present 10 that would be likely to injure the bather. The wall I is fitted with a bottom 20 provided with an outlet at 2|.

At 22 is shown an apron made of a single piece of sheet metal and formed with three sides as 15 23, 24 and 25. The central side 24 has an opening 26 formed therein of substantially the same size as the opening I2 in side 2 of wall I. The portion of the side at the bottom of the opening is provided with a flange 21 extending inwardly therefrom and in a substantially horizontal plane, and thence extending downwardly as at 28 and then upwardly and rearwardly as at 29 to overlie the flange [3 in side 2 when the apron is in position. The portions of the side 24 de- 25 fining the sides of the opening are turned inwardly as at 39' and offset as at 31 to slidably engage the sockets [1.

23 and 25 are also provided with inwardly turned hook-like members on their upper edges as at 34 and 35 adapted to extend over and engage the top edges of sides 3 and 9 of wall I.

In installing the structure it is only necessary to place the main portion l-2l in the corner of the room with sides 5 and l seated against walls I I] and II, make the necessary plumbing connections, and then lift the apron into position with flanges 30 engaging sockets ll,

34, 35 overlying the upper edges of sides 3 and 9. When so seated the apron will fit snugly against the floor and against the walls on either side.

By means of this construction the plumbing connections to pipes as 36 are easily effected since the pocket 31 is open until the apron is placed 55 in position. The rod 32 performs the double function of providing a support for a curtain and rigidly spacing the upper portion of the apron. The method of joining the apron to the wall I makes a rigid, strong, and self supporting structure.

The bottom of the opening [2 is so spaced from the floor that the lower portion of the chamber enclosed by wall I forms a tub, while the chamber as a whole provides ample room for a shower. While it is essential that the sides 5 and I be arranged at right angles to each other in order that they may seat solidly against the room walls and so receive the substantial support of said walls it is not essential that the other sides be of the identical form shown.

It is to be understood, of course, that while I have herein shown and described but one specific embodiment of the invention, changes in form, construction, and method. of assembly and installation may be made within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. An article of manufacture comprising a unitary wall and floor structure defining a bath tub and shower bath, the wall portion defining the shower bath having a doorway formed in one side thereof in elevated relation to the floor whereby the lower portion of the chamber forms a tub, said wall portions having flat side portions formed thereon at right angles to each other and adapted to seat against two converging walls of a square cornered room, said wall and floor having openings formed therein for service connections.

2. An article of manufacture comprising, a unitary wall and floor structure defining a bath tub and shower bath, the wall portion defining the shower bath having a doorway formed in one side thereof in elevated relation to the floor whereby the lower portion of the chamber forms a tub, said wall portions having flat side portions formed therein at right angles to each other and adapted to seat against two converging walls of a square cornered room, said wall and floor having openings formed therein for service connections, and an apron detachably mounted upon said structure to extend from the doorway therein to the floor and to both room walls.

8. An article of manufacture comprising, a unitary wall and floor structure defining a bath tub and shower bath, the wall portion defining the shower bath having a doorway formed in one side thereof in elevated relation to the floor whereby the lower portion of the chamber forms a tub, said wall having flat side portions formed therein at right angles to each other and adapted to seat against two converging walls of a square cornered room, said wall and floor having openings formed therein for service connections, and an apron detachably mounted upon said wall and extending from the bottom of doorway therein to the floor and from its sides to both room walls,

longer sides being disposed at right angles to each other whereby they may be seated against the two converging walls of a square cornered room, and the other longer side having a doorway formed therein in elevated relation to the floor whereby the lower portion of the chamber forms a tub, the edges of said doorway having outwardly turned flanges formed thereon, and an apron having an opening formed therein with inwardly turned side edges adapted to slidably engage said doorway flanges, said apron extending to the floor and to both room walls.

5. An article of manufacture comprising, a unitary sheet metal structure forming a wall and floor defining a bath tub and shower bath and having side portions formed to seat against two converging walls of a square cornered room, and

other portions in angular relation to said 0011- verging walls to form pockets for service connections, and closures for said pockets.

6. A combination shower bath and bathtub comprising, a wall member having a symmetrical oblong octagonal conformation in horizontal cross-section and a floor therefor, two of the sides of the wall being parallelly disposed and each having a length greater than the width of the chamber, the sides on either side of one of said longer sides being disposed at right angles to each other whereby they may be seated against the two converging walls of a square cornered room, and the other longer side having a doorway formed therein in elevated relation to the floor whereby the lower portion of the chamber forms a tub.

'7. A combination shower bath and bath tub comprising, a wall member having a symmetrical oblong octagonal conformation in horizontal cross-section and a floor therefor, two of the;

sides of the wall being parallelly disposed and each having a length greater than the width of the chamber formed, the sides on either side of one of said longer sides being disposed at right angles to each other whereby they may be seated against two converging walls of a square cornered room, with the end portions of the wall adjacent said right-angled sides disposed in angular relation to the converging walls of the room to form pockets for service connections, and closures for said pockets.
