This invention relates to improvements in building construction and more particularly to combination fixture and wall units with joints and trim therefor.
6 In the building industry, trouble has been experienced in securing or anchoring heavy fixtures,
such as bathtubs, sinks and lavatories to the walls or floors of a room in a. manner to prevent the formation ofcracks or crevices at the junctures wherein one or more fixtures are inseparably associated with a wall-forming panel or Wainscot.
' Another object of the invention is to provide a combination fixture and wall unit which may be 25' readily carried throughstandard size doorways inv existing buildings .and positioned and installed therein by a small number of workmen, in addition to being suitable fornew. construction.
A further object is to provide a combination 30 fixture and wall unit for rooms and which may be rigidly installed in amanner tending to evenly distribute its load over a considerable area of the floor and wall structure of the room whereby to relieve excessive strain on portions of the floor .35 or wall structure, it being often necessary to weaken certain load bearing members of rooms, such as bathrooms and kitchens, as by providing cuts or notches therein for the accommodation of plumbing pipes.
40 A further object of the invention is to provide a combination fixture and wall unit having an improved fianged base and an improved floor mold.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a panel or Wainscot construction for associa- 4,5 tion with the lower portion of a wall and having A an improved finishing mold for the upper edge of thepanel.
A still further object is toprovide a supporting bar for towels and the like and improved means 50 for attaching the bar to a panel or Wainscot.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description, taken in connection withthe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification and in which:

. Along the upper marginal edge of the unit C a series of spaced apart apertures 22 is provided. Preferably, the panel portion" is of a height to line'the lower portion of a room and of a length to extend from corner to corner thereof, and in certain cases, the panel portion Il may include at one end thereof an angular extension 23 forming a part of an adjacent wall. At the other end of the panel, the flange l8 and the floor. mold may terminate in a mitered end- 24 forming a connecting element 25 in the panel above and extending beyond the mitered end. Suitably positionedrecessed tumbler holding or soap containing receptacles 26 may be provided in the panel portion II. On. the reverse side 21 of the panel are secured one or more pairs of spaced apart vertical reinforcing channels 28 including apertures 29 aligning with apertures 30 in the panel.
In Figure 10 is shown a U-shaped supporting bar 3| having flared tubular ends 32 in which are embedded a pair of internally threaded cylindrical inserts 33 cooperating with,theflared ends to form seats 34 for a pair of cushioning washers 35. Extending through the apertures 29-40 and the cushioningwashers 35 from the reverse side 21 of the panel and threading into the inserts 33 are 42' extending upwardly from the upper surface 40 at its rear'extremity 43 and side extremities 44 forming rear and sidewalls 45 and 46 respectively. In addition, the panel portion 42 may extend laterally from the front wall or skirt 39 at its end extremities 41 forming' walls 48 and 49.. If desired, the wall 49 may include an angularly extending portion 50 provided with, a suitably hinged access door 5l and a recessed paper holder 52. The rear wall in may be provided with a recessed soapcontainer 5,3 and a U-shaped supporting bar 54 having its ends afllxed to the panel as by welding. In spaced parallel relation above the flange'55 is an integral floor mold -51 including a substantially horizontal floor-contacting flange 53. Along the upper marginal edge of the unit D a series of spaced apart apertures 53 is provided. The panel portion of the unit D preferably is of a height to line the lower portion of a room and of a length to extend from corner to corner thereof. At the ends of the panel elements and 6! may be provided and in order to permit other panels to be connected thereto,

Panel wall units E may be utilized in conjunction with the combination fixture and wall units as shown in Figures 1, 2, and 7. The vertically disposed panel- units 64 and 65 are, substantially similar in that their lower edges are each provided with a horizontally disposed supporting flange 66 having a series of screw or nail receiving apertures 61. Also, each unit is provided, in parallel relation above the flange 56, with an integral floor mold 68 including a substantially horizontal floor contacting flange 83. .The panel unit 64 may be provided at one end with a vertical fln-like extension III beyond the mitered end II of the flange and floor mold.. The other end 12 of the panel unit 64 may terminate in a verti cal plane, if desired The panel unit.65 may be provided at onev end with a vertically disposed channel I3 and the opposite end may include an outwardly offset vertical fin-like extension I4.

Referring nowto Figures 8 and 9, it will be seen that the upper'edge of the unit D carries the. finishing molding F, having a depending rear flange I5 which is provided with upwardly extending notches 16 corresponding in spacing to the apertures in the panels. The molding F may include a frontwall 11 depending from a relatively wide horizontal top portion I8 and adapted V to cover and conceal the openings in the panels.

Due to the convenient-size of the units 0, D,
and E, they may be manufactured, crated, transported and installed in much the same manner as separate fixtures, while permitting of mass production in a factory of the major portions of fixture containing rooms, such as bathrooms and kitchens; and at the same time avoiding the difficulty of transporting a completely assembled room unit from the factory and installing it in an existing or partially completed structure. The units C, D, and E may be joined together in end to end relation by inserting the vertically disposed fln-like extensions thereof into the vertically disposed channel-forming, members of adjacent units as shown in Figures 1, 2, and 'I.

The units C, D and E maybe produced by any suitable method, such as casting or pressing. Obviously, the lavatory, bathtub or accessory fixtures may be first separately formed, and subseguently welded or otherwise combined with suitable wall panels into a single unit at. the factory and preferably prior to the application of a porcelain, enamel, or other suitable coating or finish. The wall panels may simulate the appearance of tiling, if desired. In order to'provide for the installation of a medicine cabinet 80, a suitable notch 8I maybe formed in the top edge of any of the units, such as the lavatory unit C.
Various changes may be made to the shape, size and arrangement of parts herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope'of the following claims.

- 1. A combination fixture and wall unit comprising a fixture includinga supporting skirt and a Wainscot integral with the fixture and including fixture-supporting portions extending up wardly from and laterally of thefixture and defining an opening at the rear oi. the fixture.
2. A combination fixture and wall unit comprising a flxturehaving a skirt forming a base, and a Wainscot integral with the fixture, said wainscot' extending upwardly oi the fixture and laterally of the skirt and defining an opening at therear of the skirt.

A combination fixture and wall unit comprising a wainscot portion provided with an opening, said wainscot portion having a-sui porting flange alongits lower edge and a fixture portion having a plurality of walls integrally joined to the wainscot portionadiacent the opening whereby the fixture portion conceals the opening. 4. A. combination fixture and wall unit comprising a fixture including a skirt,, a Wainscot extending laterally of the skirt andintegral therewith and a continuous supporting flange alongthe lower edges of the skirt and Wainscot.
5. A combination fixture and wall unit comprising. a fixture provided with an integral Wainscot portion, said wainscot portion having a supporting flange along its lower edge and an imtegral floor molding in spaced parallel relation above the flange.
6. A combination fixture and wall unit comprising a fixture including a skirt, a wainscot extending laterally of the skirt and integral therewith, a continuous supporting flange along the lower edges of the skirt and Wainscot, and a continuous floor molding integral with the skirt and Wainscot and in spaced parallel relation above the flange.
7. A combination fixture and wall unitcomprising a fixture provided with an integral wain- 7 mt portion extending laterally and upwardly a,1oo,scs

In a room construction, floor supporting means, wall supporting means, a plurality'of ver tically disposed panels each having a flanged lower edge resting on the floor supporting means. said panels being joined together in end to end relation adjacent the wall supporting means. means securing said panels at their upper edges to said wall supporting means, whereby said panels form a wainscot for. the lower portion or the room, at least one of said panels including an integral fixture having a downwardly extending skirt terminating at its lower edge in the flanged lower edge of thepanel.

In a Wainscot wall, a wall supporting member, a panel, means securing the panel along its upper edge in spaced adjacent relation to the wall supporting member 'anda molding covering the upper edge of said panel, said molding in-" eluding a depending flange extending between v porting member, a panel having an aperture along its upper marginal edge,e spacing means between the panel and the supporting member, and provided with an aperturealigning with the aperture in the panel, panel fastening means extending through said apertures and carried 'by the wall supporting means, and a moldingcovering the upper edge of said panel. said molding including a depending flange extending betweenthe panel and thesupporting member, the (le-v pending flange being provided at its lower edge with an upwardly extending notch receiving said spacing and fastening means.

In a wainscot wall constructionfor a multi-cornered room, wall supporting means for a plurality of intersecting walls defining-the room, a series of vertically disposed panels in end to end relation, means securing said panels in inwardly spaced adjacent relation to the wall supportingv means whereby to form intersecting interior wall surfaces of the room, and a plurality of intersecting moldings each including 9. depending flange extending between a panel and the wall supporting means, at least one of said moldings extending from corner to corner oi theroom and being mitered between adjacent moldings. I
12.- A combination fixture and Wainscot unit comprising a Wainscot portion havingan opening and a fixture portion including supporting walls integral with and projecting from the wainscot portion adjacent the edges of the opening wherea by a concealedroughing-in space is provided hehind the flxture portion.
