Be it known that 1, PAUL Srannorg a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Dessau, Anhalt, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bathing Tubs of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to bathing tubs for use in households and has for its chief object to reduce the capacity of hot water and to other more comfort to the user.

The bathing tubs hitherto known often have the drawback that their capacity of water is too great so that a large quantity of water must be used for properly filling the tubs, this in turn making the use of a large geyser and of much fuel necessary. It is not commendable to reduce the consumption of water by reducing the dimensions of the tub in the whole or by filling 1t up to a small extent only which might cause inconvenience to the user inasmuch as he could not satisfactorily submerge in the water. Now, according to the invention, the bathing tub narrower at the foot end than at the head end and the same time its side walls are of a bulgeor step-like shape so that a water-capacity as small as possible is obtained, without entailing drawbacks such as without restricting the freedom of movement of the bathing person, while allowing a sul'licient overflowing of his body. The bulges or steps may extend over the whole length of the side walls or they may be bent oll' only at the head end, preferably growing narrower towards the foot-end until merging into the side-walls. They also may run in the same heightthroughout the whole length, or they may lie lower at the head end than at the foo-t end, this having proved to be particularly advantageous.

The drawings illustrate, by way of example, some embodiments of the subject matter of the invention Figs. 2. 4, R and 12 being longitudinal sections of bathing tubs aocording to the invention, Figs. 3 5, 10 and. 13 being plan views and Figs. 1, 6, 7. 9 and 11 transverse sections of the same on the lines 1, VI, VII, IX and XI, respectively.

The bathing tubs shown are designed to be used for complete baths, but it will be readily understood that tubs for partial baths can likewise be constructed in accord ance with the invention without any difliculties.

The bathing tubs according to Figs. 1-13 are shaped in their lower portion so narrow that they may there only conveniently receive the posteriors and legs of the bather. For obtaining suflicient freedom of movement for the shoulders and arms ofthe bather the sidewalls of these bathing tubs are step-like bent Off to the outside in the upper portion. The bathing tub according to Figs. 1-3, has steps 1, Zrunning all over the Whole length of the side walls. The bathing tub according to Figs. 8-10 has a narrow foot portion, the steps 7, 8 being only provided at the head portion for the arms and shoulders. The bathing tub according to Figs. 4 7 shows step-like extensions 3, 4: for the upper part of the body which are arranged at the head end of the tub and situated lower than the extensions 5, 6 at the foot portion the bathing tub according to Figs. 11-13 the step-like extensions run in such a way that they merge into the side walls at the head end of the tub, but are drawn down gradually at this end. Thereby some of the edges existing in the tub according to F igs. l.7 are avoided and a particularly comfortable rest for the arms is created.

I claim:

1. In a water saving bathing tub being of dimensions conforming to the human figure and having side walls bent step like so as to form. a broad upper space for the reception of the upper part of the human body including the shoulders and arms and a narrow lower space for the reception of the posteriors and legs, the steps formed in the side walls extending in onedirection up toabout the beginningo'l the head portion of the tub,

4. In a water saving bathing tub being of dimensions conforming to the human figure and having side walls bent step like so as to form a broad upper space "for the reception of the upper part of the human body including the shoulders and arms and a narrow lower space "for the reception of the posteriors and legs the steps formed in the side waits extending; in one direction up to about the beginning of the head portion of the tub, said steps lying lower near the head portion than at the foot portion of the tub and being of a breadth increasing from the foot towards the head portion and then gradually decreasing again and merging into the head wall of the head portion, the head wall proper being smooth throughout.
