Abstract

897,309. Automatic circuit-breakers. ELEKTROSCHALTGERATE GORLITZ VEB. June 16, 1958 [March 7, 1958], No. 19163/58. Class 38 (5). An electromagnetic tripping device may be used either as an undervoltage or as an overload tripping device and comprises a spring-loaded tripping lever 5 connected to a member 10 which co-operates with a latch 11 connected to the armature 3 of the electromagnet 1, the member 10 engaging the latch 11 in one of two alternative presettable positions such that either the attraction or the release of the armature causes the release of the member 10. The type of tripping chosen is selected by turning a disc 16 to suitably tension a spring 18 acting on the armature and by means of a cam 14 to position the member 10 so that one or other of the shoulders 24, 25 on the member can abut the adjacent side of a slot 26 in the latch 11. The device is set by means of a cam (not shown) which turns a lever 7 clockwise to stress a spring 8 which tends to force the levers 5, 7 apart. The action of the spring 8 turns the lever 5 which permits the upward movement of a member 19 so that contacts 20, 21 in series with the coil 2 are closed. The lever 5 also moves the member 10 so that the appropriate shoulder 24, 25 rests on the latch 11. The release of the armature 3 on undervoltage or the attraction of the armature on overload (as selected) moves the latch to the right or left, respectively, to release the shoulder 24 or 25 so that the member 10 can move downwardly through the slot 26 under the bias of the spring 8 acting on the lever 5, the end 6 of the lever 5 tripping the associated circuit-breaker (not shown).
