A collapsible caravan comprises a lower body portion 14, an upper body portion 24 which may have a combined pivotal and vertically slidable motion with respect to the portion 14, hinged side walls 26, 28, and a hinged rear wall, the caravan being extended on co-operating guide members by springs and spring hinges when a latch operated by a crank handle 46 is released. The side walls 26, 28, Figs. 1, 4, are pivoted on spring- urged hinges about the rear sloping edges of the body portion 14, and the lower half of the rear wall with the door 34, Fig. 6, is hinged at 38 about the lower transverse rear edge of the portion 14. The upper side portions 30 of the rear wall including the door lintel is hinged at 36 to the portion 24, and the upper and lower portions of the rear wall are pivoted together by strong spring-urged hinges 32 to fold inwardly against the springs when the caravan is collapsed (see Figs. 1, 3). The crank handle 46 is shaft connected to a disc 48, Figs. 10, 11, so that when the disc is rotated members 62, 64 are withdrawn against springs 76, 80 from a lower latching position with guides 74, 78;. Springs 90, 110 attached to the lower body portion 14 pull on cables 92, 112 passing to bearing members 66, 70 to raise the body portion 24 to its expanded position where the members 62, 64 latch in an upper position (shown dotted). At the same time the spring 90 pulls on a cable 94, Fig. 10, and releases a spring-controlled latch 104 locking the portions 14 and 24 together. As the portion 24 rises, the downwardly pivoted sides 26, 28 are forced upwardly by their spring hinges, and therear wall is unfolded by the force exerted by the action of the strong springs acting on the hinges 32. A pivoted rear step 40 is also provided.
