897,106. Embossing machines and chases therefor. GOLDING, W. F. July 5, 1960 [July 16, 1959], No. 24493/59. Classes 100(2) and 100(3) A forme for embossing or creasing sheet material and adapted for use on a platen 23 of a press comprises a supporting plate 18 arranged in spaced parallel relationship to the pressure surface 24 of the platen, a plurality of locking plates 16 arranged in the gap between the plate 18 and the platen, a plurality of embossing dies 10 arranged on the other side of the plate 18 with a die opposite each locking plate 16, and a plurality of screws 19 co-operating with holes 15, 17 in the dies and plates 16 and passing through clearance holes 22 in the plate 18. The dies may be adjusted by the amount of clearance between the screws 19 and the holes 22 relative to each other by releasing the screws. Lugs 31 on the plate 18 are secured to a rectangular chase 30 by screws 32 and the chase itself is supported for movement into and from the operative position on the platen 23 by rollers 33. The heads 20 of the screws 19 are sunk into the working copper layer 26 and the holes for securing the dies may be formed within the pattern &c. Fig. 4 (not shown). A bar 36 supports the plate 18 against bowing.
