Abstract

713,946. Printing-surfaces. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. Feb. 8, 1951, No. 3105/51. Class 100 (2) A blank metal plate P adapted to have characters embossed thereon for use in a series printing machine comprises a flat, substantially rectangular piece of embossable sheet material having its thickness reduced along a single line parallel and adjacent to one edge of the plate to form a linear guide groove G in one face of the plate. The groove G co-operates with a retaining lip RL, RV, formed in the lower bead LB of a frame support F, F<SP>1</SP>. The groove may be formed at the top edge of the plate if desired, Figs. 7 and 9 (not shown). Notches are provided in the side of the plate P in known manner to prevent longitudinal displacement. Grooving of the plate may be accomplished simultaneously with the operation of cutting the plate out of sheet stock, if desired. Also the groove enables the plate to be grasped and held by mechanism by which it may be fed through an embossing machine. The plate may be provided with at least one sinuous or serrated edge, to facilitate handling, the groove then extending discontinuously across the projecting portions of the edge, Figs. 4, 10 and 11 (not shown).
