In a travelling-cylinder type printing machine in which a cylindrical rotatable platen 25 of the dry or ink type is hand rolled over superimposed copy sheet material and relief printing plates the document to be printed and the plates 32 and 38, as well as a dating device 41, are mounted on a tray 30 which is readily insertable in or removable from the base 13 of the machine carrying the platen. The tray carries a rubbertipped clip device 44 for holding the document at one edge and guide members 33 and pin members 34 for locating the printing plate 32, which is holed along one edge to accommodate the pins 34, in correct position relative to the platen when the tray is fully inserted into the machine base 13. The plate 38 is held in position by guide flanges 37 upstanding from the tray. The latter is indented with recesses 48 beneath the positions of the plates 32 and 38 to assist ready removal of the latter. Marks X on tray and base are provided to ensure accurate alignment and the platen 25 is rockable about its housing to allow lifting from the document on the return, i.e. non-printing, stroke. It will be appreciated, however, that one could readily modify the present invention allowing bidirectional imprinting to be possible by either merely fastening the right-hand side of document 45 or providing a rigid platen head assembly with limited movement over the document.
