896,433. Magnetic &c. heads; supporting. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and SANDERS, T. J. Feb. 12, 1960 [Feb. 13, 1959], No. 5190/59. Class 40 (2). A pneumatic head-to-drum spacing gauge comprises pairs of apertures 42 in the transducing face of the head 43, each associated with an adjustable bleed 45 in the wind-way 41 and the gauging arrangement of Fig. 2. Air pressure in a pipe 60 depends on the head adjustment and the bleed settings and is indicated by a pointer 63 controlled by a pneumatic amplifier 55. Interchangeable heads constructed as in Specification 896,432 are set up against a stationary drum replica 65 using feeler gauges, the bleeds being adjusted to secure a linear relationship between spacing and pointer deflection.
