Abstract

842,122. Radiation gauges. POWELL, G. F. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. July 29, 1958 [July 30, 1957], No. 24113/57 Class 40(3). [Also in Group VI] In a continuous rod cigarette-making machine in which the mass of the rod is measured by a radiation gauge, the rod 1 is guided between a radio-active source 16 and an ionization chamber 17 by a pair of freely movable wheels 21, 22 each having a concave periphery to engage a small part of the curved surface of the rod 1. The radio-active source is mounted on a spring- pressed block and is protected from dust by a curved section window. The wheels 21, 22 may be provided with a narrow peripheral groove to receive an aluminium plate for testing the gauge. Specification 761,754 is referred to.
