Abstract

895,667. Piston packing. APEX SPRAYERS Ltd. Feb. 27, 1961 [July 8, 1960], No. 23885/60. Class 122 (1). A pump piston a is packed by a flat rubber &c. sealing ring f housed freely in a V- section circumferential groove in the piston, the arrangement being such that during the suction stroke, Fig. 2, the ring is supported by and conforms to the shape of one, e, of the faces of the groove to present a sealing edge to the barrel c and, during the delivery stroke, Fig. 3 (not shown), the ring is similarly supported by the other face d of the groove. The piston may comprise a pair of discs separated by a spacer ring and having their opposed faces of shallow convex or conical shape to form the V-section groove.
