Abstract

895,351. Axles. HUNTON, A. W. Sept. 4, 1958 [Sept. 12, 1957; Dec. 2, 1957], Nos. 28818/57 and 37521/57. Clases 79(4) and 79(5). The ends of a square sectionbeam 1 are machined and severed from the beam to form a pair of stub shafts 4 and an axle beam 1 of a steered axle assembly for a tractor drawn vehicle, a pair of lugs 3 being welded to each stub shaft 4 and a pivotal connection being provided by king pins 6 provided with bushes 7 and set screws 8. The stub shafts may be machined before or after cutting from the beam. One lug of each set has an extension 19 forming a track arm and is pivotally connected to track rods 16 which are in turn pivoted to a steering arm 12 pivoted between lugs 10 welded to the axle beam. In a modification, not shown, the lugs 3 may be welded to the axle beam and the king pins may pass through the stub shafts and lugs.
