Abstract

894,999. Pipe joints. WEDNESBURY TUBE CO. Ltd. Feb. 15, 1961 [Feb. 25, 1960; March 25, 1960], Nos. 6596/60 and 10573/60. Class 99(1). In a pipe-jointing fitting comprising a body parts 1, 12, the part 12 being adapted at one end thereof to be disposed in overlapping co-axial association with the pipe-receiving entry portion 5 of the part 1, there being complementary formations, e.g. screw-threads 11, 16 on the parts to draw the parts into the overlapping association thereof, and a compression member 17 formed at the extremity of one of the parts and engaged by an abutment within the other part so that the member 17 is radially deformed into gripping engagement with the exterior of a pipe extending through both parts, the degree of hardness of the member 17 is less than the degree of hardness of the adjacent part of the body of which the member is an integral portion. As shown, the conical member 17 forms part of the body part 12 and is connected to the latter by a local weakened portion 19 but may alternatively, be integral with the body part 1. The parts 1, 12 may be of metal, preferably a non- ferrous metal such as copper and brass, or of non-metallic material or of a material comprising metallic and non-metallic components. Instead of screw-threads, there may be a cam face on one body part arranged to co-act with a cam face on the other body part to produce the relative axial displacement of the parts and to apply the requisite force to the member 17.
