Abstract
1357065 Cathodic protection of pipes CONTINENTAL OIL CO 18 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 23470/72 Heading C7E [Also in Division E1] A drill pipe 1, e.g. for an oil well, has an elongated end portion internally threaded for interlocking with another drill pipe 4 having an externally threaded end, said internal threads 6 leading into an elongated counterbore 2 formed in pipe 1, which counterbore is wholly surrounded by the enlarged end-portion, and a sacrificial tubular anode 3 fitted into the counterbore in contiguity with the internal threads, said anode having an internal diameter matching the bore of the pipe. The pipe may be of steel and the anode of Mg, Al, or Zn or alloys based thereon, specific alloys being disclosed.
