894,990. Semi-conductor devices. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. June 26, 1959 [June 30, 1958], No. 22024/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 37. A varistor is made by compressing a siliconcarbide paste between metallic electrodes with such force as to cause the silicon carbide crystals to penetrate the surface of the electrodes. As described, the electrodes are of tin and the paste is of silicon carbide powder mixed with phenolic resin, a finely-divided insulator (e.g. kaolin) and an amalgamating liquid. Copper wires or tapes may be soldered to the electrodes of the varistor.
