Abstract

894,515. Fluid pressure brakes. FABRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI S.p.A. Aug. 7, 1959 [Sept. 13, 1958], No. 27150/59. Class 103 (1). A compressed air distributing system for controlling vehicle brakes, comprises a thrust element 1 connected to a brake pedal for actuating two distributer valves d 1' d 2 through a spring 2 and an equalizing beam 3, a device 8 associated with beam arm 3<SP>11</SP> enabling hand control of valve d 2 , and a spring 14 mounted under tension between a part 13 moving with element 1 and beam arm 3<SP>1</SP>. Movement of element 1 in direction f rotates beam 3 about the end of arm 31 due to spring 14, to actuate valve d 2 and supply compressed air from conduit i 2 to the trailer brake cylinders via conduit c 2 , an extension 12 of arm 3<SP>11 </SP>operating a stop-light switch I. After a predetermined rotation of beam 3, the tension in spring 14 is nil and then valve d 1 is operated to supply compressed air from conduit i 1 to conduit c 1 and the tractor brake cylinders. A rod 17 may be projected into engagement with a plate 20 on element 1, on a cup 4 between element 1 and spring 2, or part 13, against spring 18 to limit the stroke of element 1 and the brake applying pressure when desired, e.g. when the vehicles have no load. A hand-operated lever 9 can be rotated to actuate valve d 2 through a spring 10 and rod 11 which constitute the device 8.
