Abstract
893,943. Transistor bi-stable circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 3, 1960 [Oct. 21, 1959], No. 35717/59. Class 40(6). A bi-stable circuit comprises a transistor 1 to the base of which is connected a gate 5, through which pulses may pass to the base, the pulses being of such an amplitude and repetition rate that the transistor is held saturated, and a direct connection from the collector to the gate whereby the gate is held closed or open depending on whether or not the transistor is cut off or conducting. Transistor 1 is normally biased to cut off by the positive line +V, and pulses from the pulse generator 6 pass through diode D2 to cause the transistor to saturate, storage in the base ensuring that it remains saturated during intervals between pulses. When transistor 1 is saturated, the potential at B due to connection 7 is such that the gate remains open to allow the pulses to reach the base. Application of a negative pulse to I will close the gate causing the transistor to cut off. The potential fed over lead 7 to B is now such as to hold the gate shut until a positive pulse is applied to I to re-open it.
