Abstract
893,757. Assembling resilient bushes. METALASTIK Ltd. Jan. 14, 1959 [Jan. 21, 1958], No. 2095/58. Class 108(3). A rubber bush 7, Fig. 1, is assembled between inner and outer sleeves 5, 6, by supporting the outer sleeve 6 and the bush 7 upon a member 8 and a resilient member 9, placing the inner sleeve 5 upon a conical member 10, and forcing the members 5 and 10 down into the bush. The member 9 is resilient and maintains contact with the conical member 10 throughout the assembling movement. Alternatively, the inner shell 5 may be supported upon the members 8 and 9, when the outer member 6 is supported by a conical member 10 and moved downwardly into position outside the bush 7. In a further method of assembly, Fig. 3, the resilient bush 7 is forced between the nested members 5, 6, by being pushed down between a member 12 and a conical member 10 by a member 13 which engages the resilient member 9. Whilst assembly is taking place by any of the described methods relative rotation or oscillation may take place between the bush 7 and one or both of the sleeves. A lubricant may also be supplied to the bush and/or the appropriate sleeve to assist in assembly of the device. Preferably the lubricant has the characteristics of adhesively securing the bush to the sleeve after assembly. The resilient pad 9, may be replaced by a split ring of metal or other rigid material and springs may be used to hold the ring against the conical member. The pad 9 of rubber may be bonded to member 8, Fig. 1, or to member 13, Fig. 3.
