Abstract

893,501. Hammer mills. PATTINSON, G. H. Feb. 2, 1961 [Feb. 4, 1960], No. 4063/60. Class 59. A mill comprises attrition-resistant blocks 17, 18, e.g. of manganese steel, which are detachably mounted so as to form an anvil surface for the material which is impacted by detachable rotary hammer heads 13, the blocks 18 being formed with recesses 21 so as to retain some of the crushed or broken material thereby forming a protecting layer for the anvil surface and being provided with surfaces which are similar to the striking surfaces 20 and formed with similar recesses to render the blocks reversible. The recesses in the blocks may open in opposite directions, as shown, or in the same direction (Fig. 4, not shown). The blocks 18 are formed with longitudinal recesses 23.
